Just like every other fibrous fruit, pear otherwise known as pyrus communis is rich in dietary fibre (pectin) – a larger part of which is found in its skin.

Pears lower the risk of macular degeneration. Due to its high level of sugar content, it helps to energize the body system.

Pears contain anti-oxidants (flavonoids) such as chlorogenic acids which lowers the risk of blood pressure, epicatechin, cyanidin -which helps to regulate oxidative stress and quercetin -which has both anti-inflammatory and anti- bacterial effects.

It contains a significant amount of folic acid which is beneficial to pregnant women.
