Don't expect your children to listen or understand every Principle you ask them to follow the first time.
Be patient and consistent. Kids are messy, and they learn gradually, don't expect them to do it right or obey the decree you gave yesterday.
Pray With Them.
Pray with your children, show them how to pray. Go to service with them and let them know you're serious about your spiritual life.
Most of all, ask them about how church service and their spiritual life. Discuss with them about every aspect of life, especially spiritual life.
Talk About Plans For The Day.
Discuss what each one of you would be doing throughout a day. Give a brief summary of each other daily plans, probably over dinner or breakfast.
This will not just instill manners in your children but also give them a focus. It would help them concrete on achieving those daily goals.
Pray For Your Children.
Praying for your child or children may seem old - fashioned. But it's actually one of those practices that never dies, just like eating. Praying for your kids doesn't just bless their lives, it blesses us too.
Also, consider thanking you children when they do something good and encourage them when you see them trying their best. Consider thanking you children when they do something good
Don't Lie To Your Children.
Sam, a friend of mine who became a father much earlier than he expected. Once told his little boy that when people die, they become fishes and live in the sea forever.
I am sure Jackson his son was thrilled to hear that. So, one day he picked up a toy gun and told his dad that he was going to kill himself and turn into a fish, so he could swim to anywhere in the world. Funny right?
Why do I tell this story?
Children easily believe the crap we say most times. Lying to your child can reduce the level of trust they have in you. Good, bad, ugly or worse, tell them the truth.
They'd appreciate the truth more than the lie. They may feel bad about the truth, but they trust you'd never lie to them.
Conclusion
Being a parent can be the best thing or the worse thing, it all matters on our approach to being a parent.
A better way to relate and communicate with children is to be the kind of parent that you would kill to have. Love your children and in every area be better than your lovely parent.
