The system of parenting we employ to pass certain messages to our children determines to what extent they would be willing to keep to it. It is not enough to only say things to our children as we teach them the acceptable way to live, we should also illustrate those words with our actions.
When a parent teaches a child not to use abusive words on others and afterward uses such words on the child, the child is inclined to learning what is practiced easily. The character they say is easily caught than taught.
While parents might have reasons to excuse their actions at some points, the child is quick to adopt such as the way to do things.
We live in a society where children oftentimes use the line, "My mum said. . . ", but if all we do is say, we might raise a generation that sings this anthem but dances to a different melody.
Parenting goes beyond teaching in words. Our deeds matter around our innocent children who a looking up to us to define right or wrong, good or bad, for them.
It is up to us to make sure that our children do not just sing our words to them but reflect the good deeds we have displayed before them.
