Didier Drogba is in the news after he was captured using an iPhone 6 during the 2019 Ballon d’Or gala.
The Ivory Coast legend was a co-host at the ceremony in Paris on Monday, as Lionel Messi won a sixth Ballon d’Or award.
The former Chelsea striker took a selfie with PSG star Kylian Mbappe to make up for snubbing the Frenchman a decade ago.
According to Drogba, he denied a then 10-year-old Mbappe a picture after a Champions League semi-final game against Barcelona in 2009.
He explained that he was upset by the referee’s performance on that night and therefore was not willing to take a picture with anyone.
“Ten years ago after a match, a child came to me and wanted to take a picture,” Drogba said.
“That day I said no because of the result [and the refereeing]. I learned that the child was Kylian Mbappe. I want to pay my debt now.”
The Ivorian, however, made amends finally by taking a selfie with Mbappe during the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
However, what should have been a harmless gesture has become the talk of the town, after Drogba was captured using an iPhone 6 for the selfie.
Some have wondered why a wealthy man like Drogba would use such a phone when there are latest iPhones in town.
